Three Future Cats Will Play In Jordan Brand Classic Game

Three Kentucky men’s basketball signees have been selected to play in the annual Jordan Brand Classic on April 17, it was announced on Thursday.

UK fall signees Isaiah Briscoe (Newark, N.J.), Skal Labissiere (Cordova, Tenn.) and Charles Matthews (Chicago) were chosen to take part in the annual all-star game, set to take place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. The game will be nationally televised on ESPN2 at 8 p.m.

Twenty-six players were picked for this year’s game. Kentucky led all schools with three signee selections. All three will play for the East squad.

Briscoe, a 6-foot-3 guard who is already set to play in the McDonald’s All-American Game on April 1, is averaging 22.1 points, 4.0 assists, 3.9 rebounds and 1.8 steals in 31 games for Roselle Catholic High School. He won a gold medal with Team USA at the 2014 FIBA Americas U18 Championships and is ranked the No. 9 overall player in the class of 2015 by Rivals and 247Sports. He was recently named a semifinalist for the 2015 Naismith Boys’ High School Player of the Year award.

Labissiere, originally from Haiti, is a 6-11 forward who shot up the recruiting rankings with a strong defensive presence and a consistent 15-foot jump shot. A consensus five-star recruit who now calls Tennessee home, he is the No. 1 overall center in the 2015 class by both Rivals and Scout and the No. 2 center by 247Sports.

Matthews, a 6-5 guard from Chicago, is tabbed as the No. 12 shooting guard in the 2015 class by ESPN, 15th by 247Sports and the 20th-rated shooter by Scout. He captured most valuable player accolades after leading his team to the 3-on-3 USA Basketball U18 championship.

Since John Calipari’s arrival as the head coach of the Wildcats, UK has had 26 players selected to participate in the Jordan Brand Classic. The Wildcats have had 31 selections overall.
