Harrison/Ulis Named To Bob Cousy Award Watch List

Kentucky point guards Andrew Harrison and Tyler Ulis are among 36 players nationally to appear on the 2015 Bob Cousy Award Watch List it was announced by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

The annual honor, named for Hall of Famer and former Boston Celtic Bob Cousy, recognizes the top point guard in men’s college basketball. More than 35 candidates have been nominated for the 2015 award.

Harrison, a 6-foot-6 sophomore from Richmond, Texas, started 39 games for the Wildcats in 2013-14. He averaged 10.9 points and four assists per game as a freshman. In UK’s first exhibition contest of the season he dished out nine assists while adding five points and four rebounds.

Ulis is a 5-foot-9 freshman from Lima, Ohio. As a senior at Marian Catholic in Chicago, Ulis logged 23 points, 6.8 assists and 3.7 rebounds per game. Ulis scored six points and dished out four assists in Kentucky’s 116-68 win over Pikeville on Sunday.

The watch list of candidates will be narrowed down to a final 20 in early February, then final five by early March. A selection committee has been appointed by the Hall of Fame to review the candidates in contention for the nation’s top point guard.

 The committee is made up of top college basketball personnel including members of the media, head coaches, media relations contacts and Hall of Famers. The Cousy Award winner will be presented the award on Championship Monday in Indianapolis at the Hall of Fame’s Class of 2015 Announcement and Press Conference. “The Hall of Fame is honored to work with Mr. Cousy and to recognize some of the nation’s top collegiate point guards,” said John L. Doleva, President and CEO of the Basketball Hall of Fame. “This year’s list showcases student athletes that have all of the intangibles that would make them great candidates for this prestigious award.”

Harrison, Ulis and the rest of the Wildcats will be back in action on Sunday, Nov. 9 at 7 p.m. ET for their final tune-up before regular season action begins. Kentucky takes on Georgetown College on the SEC Network.
