SEC Network Not Making Friends

Kentucky Sports Radio is reporting that the SEC Network WILL NOT be airing Big Blue Madness. Not only will they NOT be airing the event that Kentucky fans look forward to every year more than Christmas, but they have also decided to NOT give WKYT the rights to air it locally either. Their reasoning for not airing Big Blue Madness is the fact that they don't want to pay the licensing fee's for the songs that the players have selected for their intros, something that has NEVER been a problem in the past when WKYT aired it. This little network is not very good at making friends I guess.

ESPN and the SEC reached a 20 year agreement a couple years back and so the SEC Network was born. There is no doubt that they hung their hope for the success of the SEC Network on one fan base and one fan base only, KENTUCKY.

Sure you got Alabama, LSU, Mississippi State and Auburn Football, but lets be honest, their fan bases don't compare nor generate the kind of revenue that Kentucky Basketball/Football fans do. The only one that even comes close is Alabama Football fans, but even then, they couldn't carry the SEC Network on their own, Kentucky could.

If your a new network hoping for success, why in the world would you piss off your main attraction? If your shooting an independent film and were lucky enough to sign Tom Hanks to play your leading role, would really piss him off just because he choose to have Twizzler's instead of Red Vines in his dressing room just because they cost a little more? NO. You send some intern a little further down the street and buy the big man TWO packs Twizzler's just to make sure he's happy. Point of the story here is this, Kentucky fans are driving the SEC Network and it's no secret. Without them, this thing would have collapsed it's first month on air. So, ESPN and the SEC Network need to figure this thing out and figure it out quick, because if Friday arrives and Big Blue Madness is not shown somewhere be it the network or WKYT, things will not end well for the SEC Network.

Tell me ESPN, what happens to a TV Network when it has no viewers?
