Day two and another impressive performance from the Cats. You have to love the way the Twins played this afternoon, seems like the have exercised some demons in this tournament. Dakari Johnson had another impressive performance as did Randle and Young.
The Cats will face the Gators tomorrow afternoon for the SEC Championship something I never thought would happen considering the regular season. Will we see a third excellent performance in a row? We will find out this time tomorrow... Until then, here's another edition of "Twitter Highlights"
FIRST HALF:
@BDawsonRivals: A woman in a UK section just shouted, "Welcome to Catlanta, Mark" as Mark Fox took the court.
@CoachCalDotCom: Interesting to note the Cats have stayed on the floor for the entirety of warm-ups. Usually go back for a pregame meeting.
@wesrucker247: Wouldn't want to be Georgia right now. Everything in here feels like the Dawgs are gonna get curb-stomped.
@vaughtsviews: Wow. Lob Andrew to Aaron and what acrobatic catch and finish to give UK 9-2 lead with Aaron going to line
@KyleTucker_CJ: OK, seriously, where did these guys come from. Aaron Harrison drive and posterizing dunk on a 6-8 forward. 14-4 UK, 14:53.
@BDawsonRivals: Is there a Harrison triplet we didn't know about?!
@ASmithRivals: Ok, so maybe the Burn-the-DVDs voodoo thing really worked. UK doing stuff we haven't seen all year on offense.
@rexchapman: Yes, this is a mediocre Georgia team. But ppl who've watched UK ball all season long have 2 be excited by the quality shots everywhere.
@KyleTucker_CJ: Cauley-Stein and Young both with two fouls and 13 minutes left in the first half. That could be trouble.
@vaughtsviews: Calipari furious with Randle over that turnover, especially when he looked at bench like he wanted the foul
@ravimoss: This is why I never lost faith and why I was critical. Bc THIS is how I felt we were capable of playing!! #BNN
@KyleTucker_CJ: Now WCS, Young and Poythress have two fouls apiece and UK has eight with 11:05 left in the half.
@KyleTucker_CJ: So many Randle drives end in strips or wild flings at the hoop.
@vaughtsviews: Kentucky has temporarily lost its mojo
@vaughtsviews: Familiar problem for Cats, 5 minutes without a field goal
@vaughtsviews: Cats had 17 points in 6:46 before Young got 2nd foul. Now 4 pints in almost 6 minutes without his offense
@KyleTucker_CJ: Lee got about three tip-in tries there, no dice. Cats lead 21-15 with the ball after this timeout, 7:41 first.
@KyleTucker_CJ: UK started 7of 8 shooting, has missed nine consecutive field goals.
@vaughtsviews: Cal going deeper on the bench now with appearance coming for Hawkins
@johnclayiv: No offensive flow to this first half at all. UK 28-22 over Bulldogs with 3:59 left.
@KySportsRadio: These foul calls are keeping Georgia in the game...all their points coming from the line
@KyleTucker_CJ: So Calipari changes UK approach after giving up on fouls being called ... Cats draw a whistle every other trip down.
@vaughtsviews: Cal timeout and asking Andrew, "Why do you shoot that?' Georgia within 34-30 at 1:05
@JDrumUK: HALFTIME: UK 36, UGA 32.
ASmithRivals: Not sure exactly how to feel about halftime score. Seemed like UK outplayed them throughout, but also had to weather a lot of fouls.
@johnclayiv: Calipari almost to his knees when Georgia scored last basket so upset. Pointed at Randle.
@DanWolken: Seems like smoke and mirrors has Georgia down just 4 at halftime, but they aren't letting Kentucky big-boy 'em
SECOND HALF:
@DanWolken: It's really astounding how many shots around the rim Kentucky has missed the last two days
@KyleTucker_CJ: "Dude, it's ridiculous," Randle told me last night when I asked about these short-range misses.
@KyleTucker_CJ: Cauley-Stein, who played just two minutes in the first half, gets his third foul with 16:08 left in the second.
@GreggDoyelCBS: Where'd Willie Cauley-Stein go? Pretty sure I saw him yesterday.
@vaughtsviews: @GreggDoyelCBS Back where he has been way too often this year
@KyleTucker_CJ: And James Young airballs a three. Cats' offense has short-circuited.
@DanWolken: Time for another Calipari tweak
@MrCFB (Tony Barnhart): Kentucky is so talented but so frustrating to watch. Tough group to coach I would think.
@KyleTucker_CJ: Cats now 7 of 27 shooting with five turnovers in the last 28 minutes of this game. Shot 7 of 8, one TO in first seven minutes.
@DanWolken: Same thing Kentucky did yesterday - let a team get close, then come right back with a mini-spurt
@ASmithRivals: Kentucky bench fired up after five quick points. Even John Robic waved his arms to the crowd, asking for more, after Aaron's 3-pointer.
@SEC_Craig: Attendance for today's SEC Tournament semifinals: 20,330
@KyleTucker_CJ: What a swing. Johnson's FT misses but WCS rebounds, Aaron Harrison hits a three. Five points, UK up 51-43, 12:16 to go.
@NextCats: Dakari Johnson has been a whole lot of fun to watch the past few weeks. Could be an absolutely dominate college center one day.
@vaughtsviews: Coach Orlando on bench screaming "Yeah" on that rebound and follow by Dakari
@JDrumUK: Tony Greene says "No, no, no. We shall not have rhythm under my watch today."
@ericcrawford: Young and Johnson very fired up. Two big-man lineup looks a lot more together than when Calipari used it at Florida.
@JDrumUK: Some MKG-quality squirming by Andrew Harrison after that hard foul. Impressed.
@vaughtsviews: Say what you want about the Harrison twins, but they are tough kids. Both have taken big-time falls today and got up
@JDrumUK: Of course, MKG would look like he had been shot by a sniper, then come out and get the next 7 rebounds of the game.
@NextCats: In case you're wondering, Dicky Beal is only UK player to get 10 assists in an SEC Tournament game. Andrew Harrison has 8. 9:57 left.
@KyleTucker_CJ: Fim almost unkind again to Randle. Drive, foul, folk around ... around ... around ...down. Big play there.
@vaughtsviews: Randle now with another double-double after that 3 point play
JDrumUK: A little early continuation action for Randle. Get him used to his next gig.
@KentuckyMBB: Julius Randle has tied the program record for double-doubles in a season by a freshman with 20. Ties Anthony Davis and DeMarcus Cousins.
@ASmithRivals: Calipari's incredibly frustrated with WCS' defense. He can be a game-changer on that end, but he's also surprisingly inconsistent.
@ravimoss: I want every single person that has been trashing the Harrison brothers to apologize right now!! Y'all been killin them. Apologize!!!
@MrJoshHopkins: March is fun
@ASmithRivals: Calipari smiling as UK comes to the huddle after Andrew's 3-pointer. Basically shook Andrew's hand. He's enjoying this version of UK.
(so good to see this that I'm using it twice)
@johnclayiv: Kentucky killing Georgia on glass - 36-20
@KyleTucker_CJ: Andrew Harrison has scored UK's last seven points. Driving layup, three, driving floater. Nicely done.
@ericcrawford: Andrew Harrison fighting back a smile after his third straight score and 8 straight points to put this away.
@ASmithRivals: Andrew Harrison just set a new season-high with nine assists. Previous mark: Eight assists, last night.
@KySportsRadio: Still Tweaking!
@ASmithRivals: Seeing UK turn in really good performances in two straight games is big. But both were against non-tourney teams. Huge test now vs. Florida.
@BDawsonRivals: Calipari takes a running timeout. He'll clear the bench.
@ericcrawford: #Kentucky-Florida, Round 3 for the SEC Tournament title. Should be a good one.
@KySportsRadio: Been a really fun two days. Play with nothing to lose tomorrow versus the Gators
@ASmithRivals: Harrison twins combined: 34 points on 12-20 shooting, 6-of-9 three-point shooting, 11 rebounds, three turnovers.
@SethDavisHoops: Good work today by Kentucky. I spy mojo!
@CoachCalDotCom: Kentucky is heading to the SEC Tournament championship with a 70-58 victory over third-seeded Georgia.
@ASmithRivals: Kentucky's "mojo reclamation" project ver close to being complete. Don't think they have to win against Florida, but must be competitive.
