Kentucky’s Devin Booker was named the Southeastern Conference’s Freshman of the Week for the fourth-consecutive week it was announced by the league office on Monday.
Booker is the first player to earn the Freshman of the Week accolade in four-consecutive weeks since UK’s Nerlens Noel achieved the same feat Jan. 21-Feb. 12, 2013. In addition to Booker and Noel, only John Wall (Nov. 23-Dec. 14, 2009) was named the league’s top first-year player in four-successive weeks in league history.
The Grand Rapids, Mich., native began the week by scoring nine points in a win on the road at Missouri. He followed that with an 11-point performance in a home victory over Alabama. Against the Crimson Tide, Booker went 4-of-6 from the field and 3-of-4 from behind the arc. He also added a pair of rebounds and an assist in the win.
For the week, Booker shot 53.8 percent from the field and a squad-best 60 percent from behind the 3-point line. He also connected on all three of his free throw attempts. Booker has 10 multiple 3-pointer games and leads the SEC with a 50.6 percent rate from behind the arc for the season. He also sits in sixth place among all league players with an average of 2.0 made 3-pointers per game.
Over the last 11 games, Booker has drained 25 of his last 38 shots from 3-point range and is connecting on a 65.8 percent rate.
Booker and the Wildcats have now hauled in eight total SEC Freshman of the Week accolades. Karl-Anthony Towns has earned the honor twice, and classmates Trey Lyles and Tyler Ulis have each garnered the award once this season.
The Wildcats return to action on Tuesday when they play host to Georgia at 7 p.m. ET in Rupp Arena. The game will air live on ESPNU.
