I didn't think it was possible for UK to get bullied in the paint, I mean considering the fact that we have already played teams like Kansas, Texas and Louisville who are strong in the middle and handled them with ease. But, that's exactly what happened in the first half of tonight's game against, Ole Miss.
The Cats started the game hot going 5-5 from three (Aaron Harrison 3-6 in first half) to run out to a 12-0 lead. Then Ole Miss calls a timeout and everything changed. They played more efficient basketball on both ends of the floor, they played a version of a zone that clogged the lane and out-muscled Kentucky's bigs to comeback and take a 6 point lead of their own. Of course, they done it on the back of Stefan Moody's hot three-point shooting (4-5 from downtown in the first half) who ended the half with an impressive 16 points.
Kentucky, on the other hand couldn't buy a shot from inside not to mention the outside ending the half hitting 2 of their last 20 shots for a whopping 34% from the floor compared to 50% from them Rebels. Aaron Harrison did finally break the scoring drought with a run-out layup off of a steal to set the halftime score of 38-36 and ended the half with 15 points of his own.
The second half.... Oh the second half. It started pretty much like the first, Kentucky strikes quick with five straight points, then Ole Miss responds and then, it was on from there. Both teams fought and fought hard for the entirety of the second half. Then you add in the fact that this game went to overtime, and that makes the win that much sweeter.
If I told you that the team that hung the most points on Kentucky at this point in the season was Ole Miss, would you believe me? Well, it just happened. Kentucky done what it needed to do to win and it took everything the Cats had. If you look at the stats (picture above), both teams were pretty much even in everything they done. There will be some that will pick out little things that led to what was the ending, but the fact is, Ole Miss is a good team and will more than likely make the NCAA Tournament.
Bottom line, this Kentucky team does what it has to do to get the W and so far this season, no-one has done anything to stop them.
Kentucky wins, 89-86 in overtime...
More to follow.....
If it seems like the second half review was rushed, it was. 3am comes early for the day job. I'll do my best to bring you anything else that comes out throughout the night...
