Cats Down Cards 74-69; Head to Elite Eight To Face Michigan

(click to enlarge)

This game is one that will go down in the history books as one of the most exciting games between the Cats and Cards.

In the first half, when Louisville went up 18 to 5, things looked beyond bleak. At that point, I would have told you to find something else to watch on TV. I should've known better as the Cats cut the Cards' lead to three heading into the half.

Starting the second half, neither team shot the ball particularly well, but when it heated up it was beyond entertaining, stressful and vomit inducing. Every time the Cats would tie the game, the Cards had and answer and would extend their lead to six or more.

However, Kentucky would close out the game by being solid at the line and end up winning the game, the game that had the sate and families divided since the final buzzer sounded at the Wichita State game last Sunday night.

Enjoy this win as a hot shooting Michigan team is waiting in the wings..

Helluva a win and helluva game by both teams no matter the outcome.

Now, it's time for MY favorite part of the post... The reaction on Twitter:

@ryanlemond:  Hate to say it, the announcer just announced the game as Uk vs UofL and uofl crowd was louder

@ASmithRivals:  These two teams both carry eight-game NCAA Tournament win streaks into this game.

@KySportsRadio:  There is exactly zero chance I will be calm or rational for next 2 hours so my phone is going off. Let's get this win Cats!

@markstory:  Tons of both flue and red in here. If this game goes to wire, crowd might blow the roof off this place.

@ryanlemond:  Pitino & Cal embraced, laughed, hugged, smiled, almost looked like they liked each other

@GoodmanESPN:  Kentucky vs. Louisville. Sweet 16. Doesn't get much better than this.

@GoodmanESPN:  I love watching Calipari and Pitino against one another. They both get jealous when the other one starts talking to the refs.

@DanWolken:  Kentucky is an absolute mess. 16-5, Louisville. Calipari has to use another timeout.

@rickbozich:  Willie Cauley-Stein hurt

@Drerid:  We gotta stop turning the ball over !!!

@CoachCalDotCom:  14-1 run for U of L puts the Cards up 18-5. Cal calls timeout at the 12:27 mark. Ugly so far for UK.

@ASmithRivals:  Kentucky's going to have to do some serious switch-flipping to get back in the before halftime.

@SteveJones_CJ:  Oh, man, Tracy Wolfson's description of Cauley-Steins injury sounds very serious. "Heard it pop."

@vaughtsviews:  Back to back fouls on Cards and Pitino letting officials have it.

@NextCats:  And now Willie Cauley-Stein is limping to the UK locker room, with one shoe off. Big loss for Cats.

@vaughtsviews:  If Willie is done as reported, someone has to really man up for UK inside now

@GoodmanESPN:  Calipari to his team: "Run something."

@DevinBook:  Man hearing bad news about WCS. Prayers out to him

@BDawsonRivals:  Calipari is livid now. Wanted the push on Randle. "Come on! You got to call that!"

@BDawsonRivals:  After that Poythress turnover, Calipari shouts: "Get him out! GET HIM OOOOUT!"

@vaughtsviews:  Calipari pleading with team to be tougher with the ball, but message not getting through

@KyleTucker_CJ:  UK spokesman says no update on Cauley-Stein.

@GreggDoyelCBS:  Twins are 1-for-11 with three turnovers. Can't win that way.

@MrsTylerKSR:  Considering how badly they started, I'll take a three-point deficit at the half.

@Beisner_cn2:  Its down to 20 minutes. And I like my team.

@markstory:  Halftime: Louisville 34, Kentucky 31

                                                        SECOND HALF:

@JDrumUK:  Randle's defense has been non-existent tonight.

@CoachCalDotCom:  Louisville's three top big men (Harrell, Mathiang and Van Treese) all have three fouls.

@PSteveKHB:  only way Hancock gets to the rim, our big guy was definitely held. U gotta know something is up when ur 1st dunk is on a team of 7 footers.

@BigTymeUK:  Pitino timeout

@johnclayiv:  Kentucky and Lousiville tied at 38 with 14:44 left

@johnclayiv:  Randle now 11 points, 11 rebounds.

@vaughtsviews:  Most emotion of the night from the UK bench after Randle powers inside to tie game at 38-38

@rexchapman:  It's difficult to comprehend how Al Poythress can't find a way to impact to impact this game. Esp w minutes up for grabs due to WCS' injury.

@rexchapman:  I just scared myself w how loud I yelled over that "grenade"-post-pass by Young.

@MedcalfByESPN:  Oh my ... Dakari Johnson just dunked on the city of Indianapolis!

vaughtsviews:  Cards just explode offensively and run out to 48-42 lead at 12:30. Calipari timeout

@GregDoyelCBS:  Pretty much the whole UK coaching staff chewed on Dakari Johnson, one after another, for not dunking that last one.

@vaughtsviews:  Looks like Cards have wore down Randle. He needed out. Cats got to survive here without him

@KyleTucker_CJ:  Still no Cauley-Stein on the sideline.

@vaughtsviews:  Difference in game RT @PSteveKHB: No Willie, too many lay ups.

@rickbozich:  Most amazing stat of game:  Louisville 36-18 edge points in the paint.

@ericcrawford:  Pitino about to take Harrell out. Told him last two Harrison baskets were on him.

@ryanlemond:  How in the name of Cawood Ledford is Luke Hancock driving baseline time and time again?

@NextCats:  Attendance:  41,072

@KyleTucker_CJ:  Danger zone for Kentucky. Young in foul troublel Cauley-Stein can't help. Down six, 7:30 to go, Cards' ball.

@JDrumUK:  Cats have made Luke Hancock look like Dominique Wilkins tonight.

@ericcrawford:  Poythress did a nice job staying in front of Hancock. Hancock did a poor job of whatever he was trying to do.

@SteveJones_CJ:  Poythress has come alive. First guy to give Hancock trouble this half.

@ryanlemond:  Two big defensive plays in a row by @AlexTheGreat22, and he's slowing Luke the lumberjack down

@TreyMambaLyles:  Great defensive play AR!!

@KingJames:  Congrats to @UKCoachCalipari and them boys at UK on tonight's huge win! #BBN #Elite8 #StriveForGreatness
